Im running to help support Billy Chip

Your donation will go towards the costs of providing tuition to a child who uses English as an additional language living in Bristol or Oxford. This includes recruiting and training a volunteer tutor, providing teaching resources and access to an online learning platform. It also covers the cost for the child and their family to attend one of our fun kids’ events or activities.

Be Well Collective provides monthly workshops which unite young people as a part of the Be Well community. Lead by an expert health professional, who provides an educational workshop to teach practical tools and skills to young people to help improve their mental health and wellbeing.

It is crucial that people who have been affected by leprosy are provided with the means with which to secure a livelihood. A sewing machine means that they can work as a tailor and mend clothes, giving them both an income and a purpose within their community. 

The Baby Memorial Garden is open to parents who wish to come to a quiet, beautiful place to remember their baby. We are welcoming to all parents and every family no matter the gestation baby was when lost, the reasons or cause or the time since this loss occurred.  We have a Book of Remembrance housed in a small brick built building where you can visit and sit on special days and read your special words or simply remember.

Surgical intervention can prevent people who have leprosy from sustaining long-term disabilities, which as well as stopping them from earning income, can have a huge impact on both their mental health and their daily lives. 

When an new outlet joins the BillyChip® scheme we send them a starter box which contains 25 chips, 1x window stickers, 2x big stickers, 1x foam strut card, 2x cardboard strut cards, 3x A4 posters and 40x BillyChip decals. This means they now have all the bits needed to be able to provide a hot drink or food for the rough sleepers to spread a little kindness and compassion. 

Your donation will cover the costs involved in setting up a new cafe or restaurant to be part of the BillyChip®️ scheme.

BillyChip®️ Foundation registered charity 1188779 was set up in 2018 to continue the legacy of Billy Abernethy-Hope a twenty-year-old ambulance driver from Bristol who was the inspiration and idea behind the BillyChip®️. After helping support the homeless at Christmas, Billy felt disheartened at how little support the general public gave to local homeless people. Many people donate to charity on a regular basis but Billy was surprised what a small percentage of donations were given directly to people living rough on our streets. Turns out most people are apprehensive to give money directly to homeless people because it's not possible to know how a donation is spent.

Unfortunately, the common perception is the money will be used for alcohol, drugs or cigarettes. Even if a donation of food or drink is given to safeguard your donation, it is very awkward as people have to make assumptions of what the person would like and when. The alternative is to engage with that person, ask the question and purchase what’s required which many feel uncomfortable doing. Billy recognized that the likelihood of someone having the time, inclination, courage, and kindness to engage with a homeless person to buy them food or drink was too big a challenge. That was the eureka moment when he first thought up the concept of the BillyChip®️. Sadly Billy never got to launch the BillyChip as planned due to his untimely death whilst backpacking in Thailand.
