Brooklyn Marathon Run for the Billy Chip

Date: 24/04/2022 Person Zantore

Hello, I'm Zantore Buoy and I want the BillyChip here in New York so on April 24th, 2022 I will be running the Brooklyn Marathon to help try and make this possible. The BillyChip is a physical token which can be bought at coffee shops and takeaways and given to homeless people as an alternative to cash. The Billy Chip is a unique, safe and secure platform which allows the public to directly donate to the homeless without the fear of their donation being misused for drugs or alcohol.

The recipient can redeem a BillyChip in coffee shops and takeaways for food and drink, where they want, when they want, for what they want.

This beautiful idea was the brainchild of Billy Abernethy-Hope, who always looked at ways in which to make the world a little warmer. Tragically Billy passed away in 2018, aged 20. The BillyChip was later launched by his family in his memory.

Billy Chip is the perfect way to share a little kindness and compassion whilst also donating towards homeless charities. As BillyChip expands and improve the lives of rough sleepers and homeless people across the UK, I want to help support this to become a worldwide solution to an ever increasing problem, any support you can provide is greatly appreciated.

BillyChip®️ Foundation registered charity 1188779 was set up in 2018 to continue the legacy of Billy Abernethy-Hope a twenty-year-old ambulance driver from Bristol who was the inspiration and idea behind the BillyChip®️. After helping support the homeless at Christmas, Billy felt disheartened at how little support the general public gave to local homeless people. Many people donate to charity on a regular basis but Billy was surprised what a small percentage of donations were given directly to people living rough on our streets. Turns out most people are apprehensive to give money directly to homeless people because it's not possible to know how a donation is spent.

Unfortunately, the common perception is the money will be used for alcohol, drugs or cigarettes. Even if a donation of food or drink is given to safeguard your donation, it is very awkward as people have to make assumptions of what the person would like and when. The alternative is to engage with that person, ask the question and purchase what’s required which many feel uncomfortable doing. Billy recognized that the likelihood of someone having the time, inclination, courage, and kindness to engage with a homeless person to buy them food or drink was too big a challenge. That was the eureka moment when he first thought up the concept of the BillyChip®️. Sadly Billy never got to launch the BillyChip as planned due to his untimely death whilst backpacking in Thailand.
